Why use Japanese companies over American Companies. If they are made in China by a Japanese company why would that be cheaper than an American company being made in China? Also if the plants are in Japan they are just as expensive or more to produce in Japan as it is in the U.S. Have you seen any cameras or t.v's made in Japan for the U.S? Japanese people will not buy a t.v or camera etc if it's made outside of Japan, that why they pay much more for products made in Japan. If they are not going to make them in their U.S. make them in China for the lowest cost.

Wrong. Tablets will never exist on their own as slate devices. Again as I stated previously slate devices are vertical market devices only. Convertibles on the other hand take the best of both worlds and contain both a touchscreen AND a keyboard. As for use. Think back to college. How many drawings did you do in class? In the traditional model notebook its difficult at best to do this. Or how about business meetings? I've done more scribbling then I can count as we work out network topology designs.
HP's TC1100, a tablet PC I had for about 2 years is a slate with a removable keyboard that also acts a convertible. I think it is the best design of both worlds. I use it for art and just love it in slate mode. My main gripe is the lack of fat buttons on the side for hot keys. I think this tablet (in slate mode) is the best looking portable anywhere...PC or Macs. But I would pick (big buttons) function over looks.
Again I've used Microsoft's implementation of a tablet PC. To be blunt its a Bill G's pet project. That is all. Its XP with a few tweaked apps designed to work better on a tablet. No one has come because MS hasn't put ANY real resources into the project. Hell they let a memory leak languish in the tablet PC for over 6 months even though they were fully aware of it. That had TPC users screeching like mad.
People will come if someone does it right and with the patents that Apple has made over the last 2 years that do pertain to a tablet interface I believe that Apple is on the right track. Much more so then Microsoft who is tied up in Vista development.
MS heavily implemented tablet function into Vista. From login, explorer, writing, etc. I upgraded my HD to 7200rpm and installed Vista RC2 and it ran better than when it had XP. For long docs, I heavily relied on a keyboard, but with Vista, it's very easy to write long docs. Before, I wouldn't recommend tablet to anybody doing long docs, but Vista change my mind.

1. If you check Apple's knowledge database or the manual that come with MBP, it actually says not to put this laptop on top of your lap, ....
I have a 4 year old Toshiba that runs (under moderate load) fairly cool. It also warned against using in lap.
I think all "laptops" will come with that warning now. It is just an attempt to prevent lawsuits.
Plus, guys, it is bad for your...ummm....baby makers...they are on the outside for a reason.

I've now read through all 48 comments and I just ordered the Tom Tom Car Kit for $87....here's why. At this price, its a phenomenal deal for the following reasons:
a) I needed a Bluetooth Speakerphone (the law in CA) and was looking at the BluAnt for $79. For a few dollars more, I get a lot more.
b) I love that it is a powered cradle/dock as the current one I have is always a hassle trying to plug in for power, and these apps drain power big time. I use Navigon....it's fabulous.
c) I can directly connect the 3.5mm line out right into my car system and even plug in an FM transmitter when I travel to output the sound from my iPhone 3Gs. Now I can tuck these cables away leaving enough slack to turn it to landscape, but its all ready to use by just snapping the phone in.
d) The enhanced gps receiver chip seems to make quite a difference in the numerous tests you can view on Youtube. Much faster response time when re-routing occurs in "low signal areas". One test in particular left the un-aided iPhone without a signal for quite a long time. Even if we all start using the new Google Maps app, this chip will greatly enhance its performance, too.
e) Landscape mode is fast and easy which is not available in my current dock configuration. A simple, no frills dock like the Kensington that has no power connect, no bluetooth speakerphone, no gps chip, etc lists for $40.
This purchase at this price is a no brainer.

You win that one. :D Although I cannot find the product page for laptop Core 2 Duos, only those for the desktop.Carlos, Intel's web site is notoriously out of date. I have never been able to find any current info on their site. Do not expect to ever rely on the Intel website for up-to-date info about themselves. :rolleyes: It is an extremely poorly designed site.

When they haven't priced for volume, their success has been more attenuated. Now this was regarding media and the iTunes store, but there's no reason cloud services couldn't be the same, particularly given how competitive this sphere will be and the fact that there's no real marketing benefit to "premium" data pricing (as opposed to premium laptop/notebook pricing where higher prices can contribute to a perception of higher quality).

More than you know - DropBox actually uses Amazon's S3 storage web service. They are a value-added provider on top much like JungleDisk. DropBox does not own the cloud themselves.
I saw this referenced in a DropBox security FAQ/whitepaper some time back

I think we will probably get an announcement about new designed MacBookPros at WWDC along with MacPro Desktops.
Rumor had it back in January that Apple wanted Intel to pre-release Merom chips to Apple for the MacBook Pro. Instead Apple was forced to rush to market a quick update to the PowerBook line using the Yonah processor.
My guess now is that Apple is going to finally get to roll out the new redsigned MacBook Pro for Merom. I bet that Apple gets away from the out-dated Aluminium/Titanium look and goes to the the smooth polished black, white, and silver look similar to the MacBook. I also bet it gets the updated keyboard, glossy display, etc like the MacBook.
My wife has the new MacBook and it is a really sweet machine to own. I think it is much better designed and easier to use than my PB G4 1.67 Mhz.
The easier HD, Battery/ memory access is well thought out. The screen is brilliant. The keyboard is much better than I expected. In addition the latchless closure works like a gem and is much more convenient than that crappy button latch on the MBPro. Also the metal look is getting ugly and outdated. It scratches easy, shows finger prints, and dust more. It is also not as forgiving of a short drop. Metal bends & breaks. Plastic absorbs and flexes.
Apple is ready to re-invent the MacBookPro and probably would have done it sooner except the chips weren't available.

The iPhone 4 got massive external and internal changes while the 3Gs just got internal changes. iPhone 4 is a bigger refresh than the 3Gs. I never said the 3Gs was not a real refresh I said it was not as big as the iPhone 4.

Anyway, i think Apple is just shooting themselves in the leg if they plan to release the iPhone 5 later. I'm gonna give it a day or two for reports from other sources.

Sounds like a virus in itself. A pointless piece of software which just hogs your RAM. Totally useless for Mac OS X.
Gee, there is nothing like sending files with virus to your PC using friends or clients. Hey, there is our awesome showreel, presentation and virus to boot. That should leave lasting impression. When the Mac OS X is hit with first major virus infection I rather be safe then sorry. Regarding use of RAM, what are you talking about? This software has extremely small footprint and only time you see it using cycles is when you start manual scan.

What real difference would a larger screen make, it's half an inch at best, barely any difference.
I really can't see what could be gained from doing this, other than being in line with the competitions screen sizes. It would have an impact on the resolution and thus affect all apps.
Would increasing the screen size really enhance the product if it compromised the ecosystem upon which it is so tightly engrained in?

When he is in his lair, in the presence of the Artifact, the Villain can:
1) summon and place one or more new monster to any empty room(s), provided he has the required turns/points. Bigger and badder monsters cost more points. Once a monster is assigned to a room, it can never be moved elsewhere or otherwise removed by the villain.
2) build one or more new trap and place it in any empty room, including already explored ones, provided he has enough points. Bigger and more painful traps cost more points.
1 and 2 can be combined in one turn, provided enough points are available
3) heal himself (1 HP per 1 point)
from any position he can
4) move to another room (similar to the heroes, each room he moves through consumes one turn)
5) wait and earn 1 turn/point. The villain can instead decide (active communication to the GM) to wait and collect points, which can then be used to summon monsters or build traps (to do this he has to go back to the Lair).

The price is actually amazing. MobileMe is $100/year for 20GB. Amazon is $20/year for the same storage plus Amazon is running a promotion through the end of the year where if you buy a digital album from Amazon, you get 1 free year of 20GB of storage.You can't even begin to compare this service to MobileMe's current offerings. This is just space. (And a music player.) MobileMe offers address book, calendar, photo browsing, and other features.

Please bring a huge UI overhaul. Lets see something new.
New UI & Grand features is what is to be expected with this update.
We already know that the aqua look is gone. The ios scrollbar shown on Lion is an example of the aqua leaving for good.
I can see lots of the applications such as Safari, Contacts, Calender, mail, ect is going to get a new look.
Very exciting to know that it's coming out this summer!

I have the 'air jacket' case on my iphone 3gs and it fits in the Tom Tom car kit just fine.
The sound quality when using handsfree isn't the best... but its not has bad as some bluetooth headsets I've had. Forget it if its raining out and your windshield wipers are on.
I don't find the kit inflexible at all... I was able to mount it and reposition it exactly how I wanted.
Overall I'm pretty happy with it.

You know, considering that Sony has been able to cram a DL drive in something as tiny as the TX series (not to mention the SZ series), I'm not sure why Apple couldn't do something similar with the 15" MBP.
Because the TX is thicker than the MBP...at least in the area of the optical drive. (Sony likes to use the tapered design that's thinner toward front edge and thicker near the back edge...it's always looked weird to me.)

Pretty impressive specs, aside from the fairly hopeless 7300GT graphics card.
The internal design - the hard drive slots and the memory - seems particularly well thought out.
The Mac Pro will be my next computer. Time to configure one and see how much it would cost.

some review of the core2duo (don't remeber the site but it was very reputable) showed that with current software the 4MB cache gives you only 5-7% over the 2MB cache. the 2MB cache chips are much cheaper so that would be a good alternative for the macbooks. i'd buy one.
there are other improvements besides more cache. core duo 2 has seriously beefed up vector-units, advanced memory prefetch and other goodies. iirc, it should be about 20% faster, clock for clock

This may be a dumb question, but why would apple just use the new chips in mbp's and not the mb? Dosn't seem to make sense. As soon as core 2 merom comes out every pc notebook will have it. Price wouldn't be an issue cause merom is same price as yonah, correct?
